Retinal
Also known as Vitamin A, Retinal is a next-generation retinoid used in skincare to help refine skin texture and improve the appearance of uneven tone and visible signs of ageing. It’s well tolerated and suitable for most skin types, including those that find traditional retinoids too harsh.
Niacinamide
Also known as Vitamin B3. Niacinamide is a well-studied ingredient that helps maintain a healthy skin barrier and supports an even-looking skin tone. It is well tolerated and suitable for all skin types, making it a versatile addition to many skincare formulations.
4-n-butylresorcinol
4-n-Butylresorcinol helps improve the appearance of pigmentation and supports an even-looking skin tone.
Ceramides
Emerging evidence suggests that smaller ceramides support the skin’s surface and help maintain hydration and the appearance of a healthy skin barrier.
Hyaluronic Acid
The optimum size of Hyaluronic Acid for skincare is still a topic of research. Emerging evidence suggests that medium-size HA can support skin hydration and help improve the appearance of skin smoothness and plumpness.
Lactobionic Acid
Lactobionic Acid is a Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA) that works as a gentle exfoliant and humectant. It helps to smooth skin texture and improve the appearance of dullness without the irritation often associated with stronger acids. PHAs like Lactobionic Acid also attract moisture, supporting hydrated and visibly refreshed skin.
EXPECTATIONS, THE GOOD THINGS:
Most clinical trials run 8-12 weeks, but real-world results often start sooner:
Smoother skin: Exfoliation results in 5-7 days
Wrinkles & fine lines reduction: Usually visible in 3-4 weeks
Even skin tone: Pigmentation varies - surface issues (4-6 weeks), deeper pigmentation (2-3 months), dermal pigmentation (6-12 months, may not respond to topicals)
THE OTHER THINGS:
When introducing skin cell turnover ingredients (Vitamin A and PHAs), some may experience temporary dryness or a few pimples in the first month, lasting no more than a week. Apply 1 – 2 pumps to the fingertips and apply to the face after cleansing as the final step in your night-time routine night. Also, for use on décolletage, back of hands and forearms.
Retinal is naturally yellow, which may transfer onto pillowcases or other fabrics. To prevent this, allow the product to fully absorb before contact with any materials, and wash fabrics promptly to avoid staining.

A revolutionary night cream featuring Vitamin A (Retinal – 0.1% - much more effective than Retinol, but without the irritation), Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide – 5%), gentle PHA (Lactobionic Acid – 5%), advanced pigmentation corrector (4-n-Butylresorcinol – 0.1%), Hyaluronic Acid (1.6%), and Ceramides (0.06%).
Vitamin A is the ingredient with the strongest anti-aging evidence and Retinal is the most effective and least irritating form of Vitamin A. The product also contains 4-n-Butylresorcinol targets, so in addition to targetting a brigther, smoother, plumper skin with a more even looking texture, you can look forward to skin with a more even looking tone. Ultimate A Gold is our Vitamin A night cream formulated to help visibly refine skin texture, even skin tone and improve the appearance of dull or uneven skin.
If using Ultimate A+ for acne and it is well tolerated, then no. If using Ultimate A+ for aging and hyperpigmentation then yes (you are getting more bang for your buck).
If using Ultimate A: for aging and or hyperpigmentation and your skin is not sensitive, then yes. If you have very sensitive skin, patch test a sample first. There is a small increased risk of sensitivity from Ultimate A Gold vs. Ultimate A. If you are unlucky and are one of those few who is sensitive to Ultimate A Gold, then Ultimate A is suggested.
Only in the evening! Apply after serums (Gentle Glow or Smooth Serum) or after cleansing if not using serums.
Retinal (Retinaldehyde) is the more effective form of Vitamin A. It works faster than Retinol, and all without the irritation! Retinal has fewer steps to convert into the active form of Vitamin A in the skin.
While Ultimate A Gold has 5% PHA (Lactobionic Acid), Gentle Glow has 10% (5% Lactobionic Acid and 5% Gluconolactone). The best evidence for PHA’s is at 10% concentration. So while Ultimate A gold has 5%, I would suggest that better results are available still continuing to use it.
Good news, yes you can! The Glycolic Acid in Smooth Serum enhances the effectiveness of Retinal, so unless you're experiencing irritation, there's no need to replace it. In fact, they work best when used together!
It is always recommended to patch test before going straight into your new regime.
