"Here are my before and after photos taken 5 weeks apart. I am really enjoying my ESK skincare. My biggest concern was my uneven skin tone due to sun damage. "My experience - My skin has always been terribly hard to control acne wise. I have struggled with acne for 15 years and have tried almost every product under the sun (or so it feels). I am used to a lot of cystic acne along the jawline and neck. After using these products, my skin broke out into a lot of tiny bumps and texture. My skin got significantly worse but I was supported all the way by Tess. I am persevering and can happily say the last few days my skin is beginning to clear. "My skin has never been super great but it hasn't been super problematic either. It's that traditional combination skin that gets a lot of hormonal breakouts. At 31, I'm a little bit sick of having breakouts AND developing lines as well. I'm all for aging naturally and at the same time, slowing down the process and caring for my skin is important to me. How do Alpha Hydroxy Acids work?
Alpha hydroxy Acids (AHAs) AKA fruit acids are naturally occurring organic acids that are used to improve wrinkles, skin elasticity, skin tone and hydration. They work by exfoliation of superficial skin cells by breaking apart the bonds that hold these cells together. This results in the sloughing off of dull and rough skin promoting the renewal of new skin cells. The result? Softer, smoother skin and less wrinkles. AHAs also work effectively against pigmentation by helping flush the pigment from the skin. Glycolic acid and Lactic acid also suppress pigment synthesis by inhibiting the activity of the enzyme, tyrosinase which is critical for making melanin. Glycolic and Lactic Acid are the two AHAs with the best evidence. Other more gentle AHAs like Malic, Tartaric and Citric acid are often included in skincare products but have much weaker supporting evidence.
